When it comes to the subject of being cremated, some people will have thought long and hard about whether or not they want this, while others will be disturbed by such a morbid topic.
But if you’re someone who hasn’t spent a lot of time dwelling on this then you might not be aware of what cremated ashes actually are.
An NHS doctor has recently gone viral on social media after explaining to his TikTok followers that incinerating a human body doesn’t turn it into ashes, like wood when it is burnt.
And understandably many people had their minds blown by this piece of information.
Dr Karan Rajan, who posts on TikTok under the name @dr.karanr, was asked by a fellow TikToker to share some “medical myths that are simply not true”.
In response, he said: “When someone gets cremated, the ashes are not what you think they are.
“Incinerating a human body doesn’t turn them into ashes like when you burn wood, you’re actually left with dried bone fragments.
“These bone fragments are put into a machine called a cremulator and pulverised.”
The surgical doctor continued: “Basically a high-speed blender that processes bones to look like ashes.”
His video has since been watched over 698,000 times and garnered over 64,000 likes.
Thousands of people also took the time to comment on the clip and share their thoughts.
One person replied: “And this my friends is why I’m being buried! Ain’t no one putting me in a blender… I’m no smoothie.”
Another said: “So I have my mom’s bones around my neck?!”
A third wrote: “This is INFINITELY cooler than I thought it was. You’re already going out on fire, but now you leave your bones to your family?!”
